FLEMING ISLAND — Baptist Health will open its new high-tech surgery center Tuesday at its Clay County Medical Campus in Fleming Island.
The $11.75 million outpatient facility spans 17,000 square feet at the 32-acre Baptist Clay Medical Campus off U.S. 17. The center features two surgical suites — each roughly the size of an average two-car garage — with state-of-the art medical equipment, as well as recovery rooms furnished with soothing paintings, comfortable furniture and internet access to help patients and their families relax.
“Every aspect is designed to provide a better experience for patients, family members and physicians. Residents will be able to have surgeries, from joint replacements to ENT [ear, nose and throat] procedures and minimally invasive surgeries, without having to leave Clay County,” said Darin C. Roark, vice president of Ambulatory Campuses and System Emergency Services for Baptist Health.
Roark said they expect to serve at least 1,100 patients at the surgery center during its first year. Most will be from Clay but some will come from neighboring counties as well.
