A contract worth as much as $99 million has been awarded to Lockheed Martin to support maintenance and upkeep of air-to-surface missiles sold to Finland, Poland and Australia.
The work on the Joint Air-to-Surface Standoff Missile, known as JASSM, will be primarily performed in Orlando.It will include system upgrades, integration, production and sustainment of the weapon.
The long-range missile is designed to destroy high-value targets and can be used by several aircraft, including the B-2 and F-16.
Lockheed Martin employs 8,000 people in Central Florida and has two major facilities in Orlando near International Drive.
The company has grown its presence in the region, having funded a $1.5 million cybersecurity lab at UCF and built a 255,000-square-foot research and development facility at its Orlando campus.
