The COVID-19 pandemic has led to a sharp increase in demand for systems to help healthcare workers, including disinfection robots. Uchimura Robots LLC today said it is partnering with UVD Robots ApS to distribute its products in the U.S. Southeast. UVD’s robots use ultraviolet light to kill bacteria and viruses,
Atlanta-based Uchimura Robotics LLC was founded in 2019 and is a subsidiary of Osaka, Japan-based Uchimura Co., which has decades of experience in collaborative, mobile, and industrial robotics components. The Atlanta Trading Co., a sibling company to Uchimura Robotics, has supplied manufacturing OEMs since 1996.
Odense, Denmark-based UVD Robots was founded in 2016 by Blue Ocean Robotics, which raised $12 million in December 2019. The UV-Disinfection Robot last year won the Innovation and Entrepreneurship Award in Robotics and Automation (IIRA) from the International Federation of Robotics (IFR). The company has been scaling up production of its robot, which is among several designs now addressing the novel coronavirus crisis.
